We just finished up May which is Mental Health Awareness Month so we did some research to find out how music helps with mental health.

Welcome back everybody!
My name is Tanya and I’m Vanessa and we are here with your monthly update of all the news and updates you need to know about the Georgetown Academy of Music for the month of July.
On today’s agenda:

Let’s start off by welcoming over 65 new students this month! We are thrilled to get you started for the summer.
Next let’s help celebrate our students with July birthdays!! We have 23 Georgetown students ready to celebrate another turn around the Sun.
Also a very happy birthday to our Director James, our General Manager Tanya and one of our piano and vocal teachers Lidiia.
Teacher and student of the month:
Our July student of the month – showcasing consistent dedication and practice and excitement into their lessons for Georgetown this time is Curtis H.
Congratulations!
Keep up the great work! We love seeing your excited personality come into your lessons every week.
Our teacher of the month is one of our Brampton piano teachers, Jonathan. Jonathan is a really calm natured, patient and a very down to Earth teacher. He also works with a lot of our special needs students to help bring them the skills to share their love of music. It’s lovely to have you with us in studio, Jonathan. Thanks for all that you do!
Welcome Brooke!
Many of the families might have already met our new Administrator, Brooke. We’re so happy to have her on our team! She’s going to be taking care of the Burlington Studio and brings a very calm, helpful and very eager personality which we are sure is going to show through to every interaction that she has with you guys. Make sure when you see her give her a nice hello and a warm welcome!

The list is almost endless!
Recitals:
You know that we love giving you all an opportunity to get up on stage and showcase your music so we have two opportunities to put into your calendars.
The first up is our winter recital at the end of the year.
December 13th, 14th and 15th at our usual venue at the Mississauga Living Art Center.
We know how busy that time of year get so make sure you pencil that into that weekend into your calendar!
Next, we have our second destination recital coming up in April of next year!
We will be going to Cleveland, Ohio to the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame. We did this trip last year and had about 30 students that got to perform on stage at Rock and Roll Hall of Fame which was almost instantly a core memory. We loved Cleveland, we loved getting the students out there to showcase their music. So make sure you mark in your calendars April 26th 2025 and all the registration details will be coming to you in due time!
Referral Prize:
We welcome and appreciate referrals with open arms!
Why? Because we do want to make sure your family loves our lessons and also like to share our music so others that leaves them asking how they can learn.

Tips and Tricks:
We get asked almost every single week when we’re talking to families “what curriculum do you use? What if my child wants to play a song for fun? What if I just want to learn a certain type of music?”
Our answer is always that we love when students get to choose a song for fun! Our schools are designed around personalizing the lessons each week.
Sometimes that means that you spend a little bit more time on a technique or skill or a piece of the music because it takes a little bit more time to master it. Sometimes you spend no time at all on it because you aced it right away.
So that also means that we love having our students bring ideas of songs or genres of music be to their teacher to learn how to play that in their lesson as they’re doing material from their lesson book and learning new techniques and all the fundamentals they also get to play something that they’re really excited about.
Of course, that helps keep them engaged and excited for lessons because the lessons are literally created for them!
So bring your personality of your love for music to your lessons every week and make a plan with your teacher to bring in a song that you’re very excited about to work on with your teacher if you haven’t already.
Let’s wrap up today with our secret word. Every month if you listen all the way through the end of your video you can call, text or email the word for your chance to win a $25 Amazon gift card.

Musical Ladder System® Achievements
The Academy of Music in Georgetown is the only music school in the area offering students the opportunity to earn special wristbands, trophies and certificates passing musical challenges with the Musical Ladder System®. This system helps motivate students to create and achieve musical goals with their instructor.
Proud parents, ambitious students and excited teachers. Everybody wins!
Do other schools offer trophies and certificates? A few, but none of them inspire their students with smiling faces by giving them full colour, really cool “Musical Ladder System®” wristbands they can show off to their friends.
