The Academy of Music in Georgetown offers private drum lessons for children age 6 through to adults of all ages. While it is important to learn proper drum technique it’s also important to have fun in your drum lessons. This is what our professional drum teachers strive for in every lesson.
Our drum instructors teach pop, rock, metal, jazz, funk, blues and many other styles. Drum language can be complex and our instructors will challenge each drum student with technical exercises designed to improve their speed and comfort. Drum students are encouraged to bring in their favourite drum parts to learn in the lessons. It’s important to learn what you want to learn. You do not have to purchase a drum kit to take drum lessons. New drum students can learn with a drum pad and sticks for about $25.00. Students use our drum set at their lessons and do not have to bring anything except their drum sticks and a notebook.
This is one of the most popular questions asked by new drum lesson students. The answer is our drum teachers make it a priority to get to know you on a personal level and to become familiar with your personal drum lesson goals.
We do not treat every drum student the same in terms of what and how we teach.
A seven year old having their first drum lesson will have very different needs than an adult starting again after having had lessons as a child.
The main reason to choose the Academy of Music for your drum lessons, is that we understand that every drum student is an individual. We will work with you to make a plan that will fit your musical preferences. At your first drum lesson your teacher will ask you about your favourite type of music, and set goals to help accomplish whatever musical aspirations you have for yourself or your child.
We teach all styles from rock, pop, jazz, country, and blues.
Our drum teachers have received their education from prestigious institutions such as York University, Western University, Humber College, Mohawk College, and the University of Toronto. Many of our instructors have gone on music performance tours of Canada, and the United States, and have over 25 years of professional performance and teaching experience. In addition to their teaching credentials, our teachers have warm personalities, are extremely friendly and strive to get to know each student and their parent on a personal level.
Having a drum set at home would be helpful however you can start with a rubber drum pad and sticks in the beginning. This way you can be sure you are enjoying your drum lessons and are ready for a longer commitment before you invest in a full kit.
