Why We Do What We Doukulele

My family and I keep a camping trailer on a small lake in the Bruce Peninsula. Our little piece of paradise is about 10 minutes from Wiarton Ontario. We often go up on weekends and spend our holidays there. A few weeks ago three ladies came to the park to perform. They set up on a small stage and played their ukuleles and sang song after song for hours.

The woman were not professional musicians nor did they did get paid for this concert. They didn’t even ask for anything, although we would have gladly taken up donations. They were there to play and sing for FUN, and no other reason!

Kieran on the UkuleleMost of the people in the park came out to enjoy the show and sing along. We were all welcome to bring our instruments if we wanted to.  They even brought a few extra if you felt like giving it a try. My younger son Kieran had a great time trying to play along with them.

Throughout the evening my mind kept wandering back to the Academy and all the amazing students and teachers we work with and why we began teaching music in the first place. I love music, and I love the sense of community it creates. I love to see people accomplish something new and the joy they get from sharing it with others. I have personally introduced hundreds of people of all ages to music and through the Academy we have helped thousands of musicians learn music, and learn to love music.

To all of you that are learning music, teaching music, and/or sharing music in your community I am proud of you. You should know that you are a part of something beautiful.

THIS IS WHY WE DO WHAT WE DO!

Funfest

Funfest is an annual music competition that has been held at various locations across southern Ontario for over 25 years. This competition includes students of all ages and levels from studios across southern Ontario. Our goal for Funfest is to give every participant real world playing experience in a fun and exciting way.

Student Feedback

We registered our children 11 and 7 years old at the Academy of Music here looking for piano lessons. David was the assigned instructor and he is doing a fantastic job. My 11 year old son loves the lessons, creates his own songs and has had his first recital already. We are very glad that David has been able to inspire our son to love piano so much. He can’t stop playing it. My 7 year old daughter is no different. She enjoys her classes a lot. We were fearful that the discipline or practices that piano demands may scare her away, but again David makes her have fun while learning. She’s had her first recital as well and look forward to learn more: Very satisfied! Highly recommendable place to lean piano. Alvaro Baldoceda

Pet of the Month – Marlenemar mar cropped

Every month we will feature another pet. Send us pictures of you and your pets and we’ll feature them on Facebook or our newsletter. Haven’t got any of yoursin yet so here’s my cat. Email yours today, I’m running out of pets to feature!

We think Marlene is about 4 years old. We got her from the Humane Society so she was quite nervous for a while. She has grown to be a very affectionate cat with tons of personality. She has ruined more furniture than I’m comfortable with but we love her anyway.
